14:00 - Walk in the Ver Valley
Starting at 14:00 from Flamstead Recreation Ground Car Park, at the junction of Chapel Road, Hollybush Lane and Friendless Lane. It will be about 4 miles, into Markyate, along Watling Street and back up to Flamstead. Flamstead is about 120 feet above the river valley, so the total ascent (and descent) will be a little more than that, finishing with a steady climb. There may be some mud. If you only want to join the walk, there is no need to book.
Directions and parking
It’s best to use the car park at Flamstead Recreation Ground, as there is not much parking at the Spotted Dog. Flamstead is about 1 mile from M1 Junction 9. Leave the motorway on the A5 north-west towards Dunstable. After a quarter of a mile, turn left onto Chequers Hill (signposted Flamstead) and continue along Singlets Lane, and Flamstead High Street (passing The Spotted Dog on the left). At the end of the High Street, turn right at the T junction into Chapel Road. The entrance to the Recreation Ground Car Park is on the left after about 100 yards, at the junction with Friendless Lane. If this car park is full, there is an overflow car park about 200 yards along Friendless Lane, on the left by the junction with Mill Lane.
